My name is Dan Libby. Casa Arena is my 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom vacation condo in Jaco Beach, Costa Rica. I am renting the place to vacationers looking for a home away from home in Costa Rica that is well-equipped, reasonably priced and walking distance to just about everything. The condo has beds for up to 6 persons and several elegant touches.

Casa Arena is located in Condominio Tropical. This condominium has very nice gardens, a pool with 2 jacuzzis, and 24 hour security. It is located on the main street in Jaco and is a 5 minute walk to the beach, or to shops, restaurants, bars, supermarkets, and even ( coming soon ) a mall with movie theaters. A car is optional, really.

I like to spend time at Casa Arena. I have performed many improvements on the place and have generally upgraded it from a Costa-Rican style home to a U.S. style home. My idea is to provide you, the vacationer, with items to make your vacation as pleasant as possible. For example, you'll find the rental includes a Coleman wheeled beach cooler, boogie boards, floating pool hammocks, lawn Croquet, Sony Playstation II with games, and several other "nice-to-haves" that you probably won't bring on the plane, or find elsewhere. Indeed, having talked with a few property managers, I believe that this unit is the nicest in the complex.

How To Rent

Minimum stay is 2 nights. Maximum stay is 1 month, or by special arrangement.

A deposit of $200 is also required. An inventory/inspection is performed after every checkout. In case of any damaged or missing items, the expense (including labor) will be deducted from the deposit at owner's discretion.

Daily maid service is available for an extra fee and can be arranged directly with our resident agent.

Reservation & Payment

A reservation calendar is available on the following page. You can refer to it to find out when Casa Arena is available.

Full payment is required in advance via PayPal, including the deposit. Once your payment has been received, we will update the reservation calendar.

PayPal accepts both credit cards and e-checks ( direct from your bank account ). If you do not already have a PayPal account, you will need to create one.

To make a reservation, you need to do the following:

1. Check the reservation calendar on the next page to ensure your desired dates are available.
2. Optionally send us an email or call us with any questions you have.
3. Send us an email specifying your desired dates, contact info, and # of persons in your party. We will reply with the payment amount and detailed payment instructions.
4. Send your payment via PayPal. Once we have received it, we will record your reservation.

Cancellations & Early Departures

Cancellations one month or more in advance will be refunded in full. Cancellations less than 1 month in advance will be refunded 50%. This is because we may not be able to fill the vacancy on short notice.

No refund will be given for early departures.

Check-In/Out

There are no set CheckIn/Out times. Rather, if you book the place for a given day, you are free to show up any time you like during that day. We do not rent partial days and generally require a full day for turn-around. Still, you should check with us first.

Deposit refund

Your deposit refund will be paid out via PayPal after an inventory has been performed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What does Casa Arena mean and why is it called that?

A.In Spanish, Casa Arena means "Sand House", or "House of Sand". Although the condo is not literally on the beach, the name seems fitting for a beach house.

Q. Is there an album with pictures and descriptions of each room?

A. Yes! You can click the photo to the right, or right here.

Q. How large is the condo?

A. The unit is not terribly large. It will sleep six, but six adults will definitely feel a bit cramped. Four is probably a better number.

Q. Is there a phone in the house?

A. No. But there are pay phones in Jaco. Or you may be able to use your cellular.

Q. Will my cell phone work in Costa Rica?

A. Costa Rica uses the GSM standard at the 1800Mhz frequency. So, most European phones should work here, or any U.S. quad-band GSM phone. For CDMA or TDMA, you are out of luck.

Q. Do you accept any form of payment besides PayPal?

A. We will also accept an international wire transfer, but be aware that will likely take a few days and will cost extra to send. Contact us for more information.

Q. Can you refund my payment via a non PayPal method?

A. We will refund the deposit by check if you have sent us a wire-transfer. Otherwise the deposit will be refunded via PayPal.

Q. Is there Parking?

A. The unit has one long parking space that can accomodate two cars. Your rental agent will show you the space.

Q. Can I bring my pet?

A. Sorry, no pets allowed. Hey, I don't even bring my own kitties!

Q. Is there a maximum stay limit?

A. Yes, two weeks. Remember, I want to use the house too!

Q. I've heard there is legal prostitution in Jaco. Is that true?

A. Yes, it is true. In fact, a sports bar near the entrance of the condominium complex is a very popular "meeting place" and usually quite active after 9PM. So, if you or your family find such activity objectionable: well... you've been warned.
